"What is Data Warehousing?"

Data Warehousing is a combination of technologies, techniques and expertise that large enterprises and organizations adopt to better understand, analyze and predict the performances of processes, people and organizations that are of interest.
Typically, data warehousing is utilized to improve the bottom line of an enterprise or organization. It enables an improved understanding of revenues, costs and behaviors. With such knowledge enterprises involved in data warehousing are able to improve processes and target activities in such a manner that revenues can be improved, costs can be reduced, productivity can be improved and/or behaviors of people and organizations can be made predictable or otherwise influenced in a desired way.
Data warehousing normally involves the collection and integration of disparate information from the various areas of large enterprises or organizations into a "single version of truth" for corporate reporting and decision making. It also involves the establishment of processes that make such a data source self-perpetuating. Once properly assembled and operating, this data allows for cross-functional reporting and analysis that was either not previously possible, or much more time consuming and resource intensive due to the disparate nature and lack of integration between the multiple sources of data.
